My visual exploration revolves around three intertwined themes: childhood innocence, sanctuary haven, and unwavering ambition. I wanted to visually translate the same tranquil and intimate feeling that skincare brings me and the closest feeling to that state of mind was when I did traditional Chinese painting with my grandpa. My grandpa has been involved in this practice for over 70 years. While painting, he taught me to be more patient, to slow down the running thoughts in my head, and to settle down my heart and my mind. I wanted to interlace this personal memory with a more universal concept, and I found my answer in the clouds on my walk home from school one day. I remember looking up at the vast, limitless sky, and suddenly, nothing felt like a big deal. The beauty of clouds in our sky is one of the only things that can be universally understood, no matter who you are or where you are, because ultimately, we are all under the same sky. Things began to unthread. New language, new environment, new friends. One that operated in English, one that watched the Disney Channel, one that had recess everyday at 10am and 2pm. I readily accepted all the changes. I entered a bubble. The online world transported me back to China, and my life in Canada was put on pause. The more I took in, the more it disrupted the harmony. My two identities were fighting. And for now,&nbsp; that seems to be okay.
